Owl Occasions at Bristol University

13th June 2019
Today I had the pleasure of meeting 32 pupils plus teachers and parents from a school at Keynsham with Ed Drewitt at the Biosciences department of Bristol University.
Loki (the Barn Owl) enthralled the pupils and teachers with his flights around the lab and I gave them a brief talk about the owl’s special senses. After which the pupils were very enthusiastic in dissecting owl pellets to see the type of mammals Loki would eat if he was in the wild guided by Ed and the demonstrators’ team. Whilst Loki was proudly displayed on the teacher's arm and taken up close and personal to the students. After the school left a group of visiting African students came to see him and hear about barn owls with their Professor.
Lastly, whilst I was waiting in the Biosciences entrance area Loki was admired by 2 students initially then when others saw him, I suddenly had a crowd and others watched on from the balconies above. Some of the students remembered him for my visits over the last few years. So, in all a great afternoon was had by all.
