Predatory Bird Monitoring Scheme
The Predatory Bird Monitoring Scheme (PBMS) is a long-term, national monitoring scheme that quantifies the concentrations of contaminants in the livers and eggs of selected species of predatory and fish-eating birds in Britain.

We monitor the levels of contaminants to determine how and why they vary between species and regions, how they are changing over time, and the effects that they may have on individual birds and on their populations.

Wild Place Project

Bear Wood is an exciting new development due to open in summer 2019. The exhibit will transport you back in time to when the woodland was inhabited by European brown bears, European wolves, Eurasian lynx and wolverine.

A walkway will wind through seven and a half acres of woodland where our five European grey wolves will be moved to a new home which they will share with the brown bears. Lynx and Wolverine will also roam the woodland as they would have done centuries ago. A ranger station, classroom, interpretation space and café will also be built creating an immersive experience.

Bear Wood will show the effects of woodland loss on our native wildlife. It is the story of what was, where we are now and what is still at stake.
Bristol Zoo
Bristol Zoo Gardens is the fifth oldest zoo in the world. We opened our doors to the public on Monday 11th July 1836 and since then we have welcomed over 90 million guests to our Zoo. We have helped save over 175 species from extinction in human care and in the wild. We're currently working on conservation and research projects across the world, from the Philippines, South Africa and back to our very own doorstep, the River Avon.
